Abstract

The poem "Fard" by Majeed Amjad stands as a powerful representation of existential anxiety and moral conflict in modern Urdu poetry. In this poem, the poet confronts his own inner truth, falsity, and ethical contradictions. The core question posed is whether an individual's goodness or honesty holds any meaning in the face of a vast and indifferent social system. Amjad employs symbolic language—such as “heart,” “comfort,” “lies,” and “truth”—to reflect internal torment. This research conducts an existential analysis of "Fard" to examine how Majeed Amjad aesthetically and intellectually explores the inner truth and moral dilemmas of the individual. The poem not only reveals the complexity of one’s internal world but also questions the role, responsibility, and insignificance of the individual in modern society.
